The Tennessee Titans kicked off their search for a new head coach Thursday with a pair of interviews – both defensive coordinators who’ve never been NFL head coaches.

The Titans confirmed they interviewed Houston’s Mike Vrabel and Carolina’s Steve Wilks. Tennessee is looking to replace Mike Mularkey http://www.bengalscheapshop.com/cheap-a ... dan-jersey , fired Monday after he went 21- 22 and won the franchise’s first playoff game in 14 years.

Vrabel, 42, has never been a head coach at any level. He is coming off his first season as defensive coordinator for the Texans. Vrabel played 14 years in the NFL with Pittsburgh, New England where he won three Super Bowl titles and Kansas City before going into coaching. He started coaching in 2011 at his alma mater, Ohio State. He coached linebackers and defensive linemen.

Vrabel went to Houston in 2014 and coached linebackers with the Texans for three seasons before becoming coordinator. The Texans won the AFC South in 2015 and 2016 thanks to strong defenses. The unit slipped this season with the Texans’ defense decimated by injuries to players including J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus .

General manager Jon Robinson gave little indication Monday of what he’s looking for in the man who will be the Titans’ fourth head coach eight seasons and third in quarterback Marcus Mariota’s fourth season.

”Leader of men,” Robinson said of what he wants in a new head coach. ”Obviously T.J. Hockenson Jersey , the things that are stamped out there on those pillars: team-first, detailed, tough, dependable. One that’s going to, like I said, maximize the abilities of the players in all three phases of the game.”

Wilks has only been a head coach in college at Savannah State in 1999. His first season as defensive coordinator with the Panthers was 2017 http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-aut ... vai-jersey , but he has coached with Chicago, the Chargers and joined Carolina in 2012. Wilks was assistant head coach in 2015 and 2016.

Interviewing Wilks helped the Titans satisfy the league’s Rooney Rule, and Wilks also interviewed with the New York Giants about their opening. Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis certainly thinks Wilks has earned the right to be a head coach.

”He has done a tremendous job of coming in and taking over this defense and really giving us a chance to be successful,” Davis said.

Follow Teresa M. Walker at The Oakland Raiders came one step closer to securing the land the team needs for its new headquarters and practice facility near Las Vegas – and at a steep discount.

Officials in suburban Henderson approved a resolution Tuesday that allows the city to move forward with a direct sale of 55 acres (22 hectares) to the Raiders for more than $6 million – half the land’s appraised value. The city is using a Nevada law that allows for no-bid sales at under-market prices when they are considered to be in the public interest.

”This is an opportunity to take the city of Henderson to a new level,” Assistant City Manager Greg Blackburn said during the city council meeting ahead of the resolution vote. ”It’s hard to put a dollar value to what this does to help us for the future.”

The Raiders have promised that the venue will create an estimated 250 full-time jobs not counting players. The team will spend about $75 million to build the complex.

The team wants to kick off its 2020 season at a 65,000-seat domed stadium built partially with taxpayers’ money across the freeway from the Las Vegas Strip. The team in May paid $77.5 million for the 62-acre (25-hectare) site and hosted a glitzy groundbreaking ceremony in November.

Guests of hotels and other lodging facilities in the Las Vegas area are contributing $750 million to the project through a room tax increase. The Raiders and the NFL are expected to contribute $500 million to the project Will Harris Jersey , while the team has also secured a $600 million bank loan for construction.

Henderson’s city council must vote again next month to give final approval to the offer.

Henderson officials said the city will benefit from property taxes collected on the land and additional spending from visitors and team clients. City staff said similar projects have created an estimated $210 million tax impact over a decade after the venues are fully built.

Not all residents were supportive of the city’s decision.

”The Raiders have been Gypsies over the years, starting in Oakland, then moving to El Segundo (LA) for a few years, then back to Oakland and now Las Vegas. Where to next?” Henderson resident Adrian Woodhouse wrote the city council in an email.

On Wednesday, commissioners in Clark County approved a development agreement with the team that spells out public safety and infrastructure improvements that the Raiders will pay for in and around the stadium.

The agreement calls for widening sidewalks, improving roadways http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-aut ... ant-jersey , installing and modifying traffic signals, and building any needed pedestrian bridges.

The team agreed to install about $1.4 million worth of public safety equipment at the stadium and an emergency operations center. The development agreement did not include a finalized plan for the thousands of county-mandated parking spaces.

This story has been corrected to show that officials in Henderson, Nevada, approved the resolution Tuesday.
